This Privacy Policy explains how Kidtellect ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses, and protects information when you use our website and quiz platform (the "Service"). We know Kidtellect is used by children, so we've tried to keep this in plain language and to collect no more than we need.

1. Information we collect

You can use most of Kidtellect as a guest without giving us any information. If you create an account, we may collect:

• Account details: name and email address, and a securely hashed password.
• Learner profiles: a display name, optional avatar, optional PIN, and optional date of birth or year group, added by a parent/guardian for a family account.
• Quiz activity: quiz attempts, answers, scores, XP, levels and streaks, so progress can be tracked over time.
• Contact form messages: your name, email address and message when you contact us.
• Technical data: IP address, browser/device information and session cookies needed to keep you signed in and the Service secure.

2. Children's information

Kidtellect is built for children, but accounts for children under 13 must be set up and managed by a parent or guardian through a family account. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from a child without a parent or guardian's involvement in creating that profile. Learner profiles only need a display name to get started — a real name, date of birth, or other personal detail is entirely optional and up to the parent/guardian. We do not use children's data for marketing, profiling, or behavioural advertising.

3. How we use your information

We use the information we collect to:

• Provide the Service, including saving quiz progress, XP, and achievements;
• Create and manage accounts and learner profiles;
• Respond to messages sent through the contact form;
• Keep the Service secure and prevent abuse, including spam and fraud prevention;
• Improve the Service and understand how quizzes are used, at an aggregate level.

4. Legal basis for processing

Where UK/EU data protection law applies, we rely on: performance of a contract (providing the account/Service you asked for), consent (for example, a parent/guardian setting up a family account and learner profiles), and legitimate interests (such as keeping the Service secure).

5. Cookies

We use a small number of strictly necessary cookies to keep you signed in and to protect the Service (for example CSRF protection). We do not use third-party advertising or tracking cookies.

6. Sharing your information

We do not sell your information. We may share limited information with:

• Service providers who host the Service, store data, or send emails on our behalf, under appropriate confidentiality and security terms;
• Google reCAPTCHA, used to protect our forms from spam and automated abuse (subject to Google's own privacy policy);
• Authorities, where we're required to by law, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of Kidtellect, our users, or others.

7. Data retention

We keep account and learner data for as long as the account is active. If you ask us to delete an account, we will delete or anonymise the associated personal information within a reasonable time, except where we need to keep limited records to meet legal obligations or resolve disputes.

8. Data security

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information, including encrypted password storage and access controls. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security.

9. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

• Access the personal information we hold about you or a child in your care;
• Correct inaccurate information;
• Request deletion of your account and associated data;
• Object to or restrict certain processing;
• Request a copy of your data in a portable format.

To exercise any of these rights, please contact us. If you're not happy with how we've handled your information, you also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority — in the UK, this is the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).
