Getting started
From the homepage, click Register your school. Fill in your school's
details and your own name/email/password — this creates the school and signs you
in immediately as its owner. You'll be shown a unique
8-character school code straight after registering; write it down, as
it's what you'll hand out to teachers and pupils to log in.
Log in as a staff member and go to Manage school — the code is
shown on the school's admin home page.
Staff (owners, admins, teachers, assistants) log in at
Pupils log in at
/login with their email and password, the same as any normal account.Pupils log in at
/pupil/login using the
school code plus their username (no email needed). If
it's their first time logging in they'll be asked to choose a password; after that
they'll enter it as normal.
Staff: use Forgot your password? on the login page
— a reset link is emailed to you.
Pupils: pupils don't have email addresses on file, so they can't self-service a reset. Ask a school owner/admin/teacher (or an assistant with the "reset passwords" permission) to reset it for you from the class pupil list — this clears the password and you'll be asked to set a new one next time you log in.

School owners & admins
Go to Manage school → Year groups to add year
groups (e.g. "Year 4"). Under each year group, add one or more classes (e.g. "4A").
You'll assign subjects and teachers to classes once they exist.
Open the class in Manage school and use the Staff
tab to add someone by email. If they already have a Kidtellect account (e.g. they
teach at another school too) they're simply added to this class; if not, a new
account is created for them and they're emailed a password-reset link so they can
set their own password. Tick Teacher or Assistant
to set their role for that class.
It's the other way round — assistants have a reduced set of
permissions. On the class's Staff tab you can tick two per-assistant checkboxes:
can reset pupil passwords and can view results.
Assistants otherwise only see a read-only pupil list for their class; they can't add,
edit, or remove pupils, manage subjects, or build quizzes. Teachers can do all of
that for their own classes. These checkboxes save immediately when you tick them.
From the class page, use Add pupil and give them a name and a
username (unique within the school). New pupils have no password until they first
log in at
/pupil/login, where they choose one. You'll see their status
as "Awaiting first login" until they do. Owners, admins, and teachers can all add,
edit, and remove pupils.
Assign one or more subjects to a class — every pupil in that
class then sees quizzes for those subjects by default. If a specific pupil needs a
different set of subjects, set a subject override on that pupil's
page; it replaces the class default for them alone. Unchecking every box on a
pupil's override clears it, so they go back to using the class default rather than
seeing nothing. Age range on a quiz also matters: a pupil only sees quizzes whose
min/max age covers their date of birth (if it's known).
They have the same day-to-day rights over the school (year groups, classes, staff,
pupils, quizzes). The one difference is that an admin can't add another owner to the
school.
Teachers
From your class page, click through to {School} quizzes, then
New quiz. Quizzes belong to the whole school (not one class), so any
class you teach can reuse one by subject/age. Give it a title, subject, and age
range, then add questions — each question has 4 answer options with a radio
button marking the correct one. Use + Add question to add more.
A draft is only visible to teachers/admins while you're still
building it — no pupil can see or take it. Publish makes it
live for any pupil in your school whose subject and age match. You can go back and
edit a published quiz at any time; editing rewrites all its questions from the form,
so make sure the full quiz content is correct before saving, not just the bit you
changed.
Quizzes are private to your school by default. Open the quiz and
submit it for public review — a platform admin then approves
or rejects it. Approving publishes a snapshot to the public library that any school
can browse (correct answers aren't shown to browsers). If you later edit an
already-public quiz, the edit goes back into review while the public library keeps
showing the previous approved version (with a "being updated" banner) until the new
edit is approved. If a submission is rejected, it simply reverts to private; if a
pending edit to an already-public quiz is rejected, only the edit is
discarded — the quiz stays public with its last approved content.
Yes — use Public library in the navigation bar to browse
approved public quizzes from any school. It's read-only (no "copy into my school"
action) and correct answers are hidden, same as any pupil browsing would see.
Go to your class's Results page. You can filter by subject or
pupil, see each pupil's average score, and drill into the full table of individual
quiz attempts. Pupils can retake quizzes, so you may see more than one attempt per
pupil per quiz — only the aggregate score/total is stored, not a
question-by-question breakdown.
Assistants
This only appears if a teacher/admin has ticked "can reset passwords"
for you on that class. If it's enabled, open your class's pupil list and click
Reset password next to the pupil's name — they'll be asked to
set a new one next time they log in. If you don't see the option, ask your class
teacher or school admin to grant it.
You need the "can view results" permission for that class (granted
by a teacher/admin). Once enabled, your class page shows the same
subject/pupil-filterable results view teachers use.
No — pupil management and quiz building are limited to owners, admins, and
teachers. Assistants get a read-only pupil list plus the two named permissions above.
Pupils
Go to Pupil login, enter your school's code and your username. Since
you don't have a password yet, you'll be asked to choose one — then you're
straight into your dashboard.
Your dashboard lists quizzes matched to your subjects and age. Click a quiz to start
it, answer each question, and submit at the end to see your score straight away.
Yes, quizzes can be taken more than once. You can see your past scores on your
results/dashboard page.
Ask your teacher, school admin/owner, or an assistant with reset permission to reset
it for you — you'll then be asked to set a new one next time you log in.
Platform admin
Use the Review queue link in the nav (only visible to platform
admins). It lists both fresh submissions and pending edits to already-public quizzes.
Approve creates a new public snapshot (previous snapshots are kept,
so the library's version history is preserved). Reject a fresh
submission reverts it to private with a reasoned notification to the submitting
teacher; rejecting a pending edit just discards the edit and leaves the quiz's
existing public content untouched.
There's no in-app screen for this — a platform admin isn't tied to any school.
It's set directly on the
users table (is_platform_admin = true),
e.g. via php artisan tinker on the server. Ask whoever manages the
deployment.
Notifications & other questions
Staff get an in-app notification (not an email) when something needs their
attention — most commonly a platform admin approving or rejecting a quiz
you've submitted to the public library. Click the bell icon in the nav to view them;
unread notifications show a red badge with the count.
Yes to both. The same email can be a teacher at one school and an admin at another
— each school-management screen is scoped to a specific school so it's always
clear which one you're in. If you hold multiple roles (e.g. teacher and assistant),
your Dashboard shows the union of everything you can do rather than
picking just one.
Can't find what you're looking for? Ask a school owner/admin, or whoever manages your Kidtellect deployment.
