Talking about work experience

Use the perfect tense to describe a past placement: Ich habe ein Praktikum bei einer Firma gemacht. (I did work experience at a company.) Describe it using adjectives like nützlich (useful) or anstrengend (tiring).

The future tense

The future tense is formed with the correct form of werden plus an infinitive at the end of the sentence. The forms of werden are: ich werde, du wirst, er/sie/es wird, wir werden, ihr werdet, sie/Sie werden. For example: Ich werde an der Universität studieren. (I will study at university.) Sie wird die Welt bereisen. (She will travel the world.)

Talking about career aspirations

Use Ich möchte... werden (I would like to become...) plus a job title without an article: Ich möchte Ärztin werden. (I would like to become a doctor.) You can also use Ich hoffe, dass... (I hope that...): Ich hoffe, dass ich erfolgreich sein werde. (I hope that I will be successful.)

Common mistakes

• Forgetting to remove the article before a job title after "werden", e.g. writing "ein Lehrer werden" instead of "Lehrer werden".
• Using the wrong form of "werden" for the subject, especially confusing "wird" and "werde".
• Placing the infinitive in the wrong position instead of at the end of the clause.
